Friends, Food, and Bad Movies

Happy Monday!

This past week was pretty exciting! Monday, I start looking through Snapchat, as I typically do, and I noticed that two of my favorite people EVER, my hometown best friends, are in Dallas. I immediately jump in a group text and find out that, surprise, they are on their way to see me (and Metallica, but mostly me).

Vic, me, and Cassie!

I've been friends with Cassie and Vic since high school, so seeing them just brings me back so many good memories. We spent hours talking about fanfiction, OTPS, other people from back home, and laughing all night. Also, Cassie surprised me with a WAFFLE MAKER! I've been dying to have one for a long time so that was so cool!

Wednesday, Jonathan's friend Josh, flew in from Illinois after visiting his girlfriend and stayed at our place for a few hours. We ended up going to watch "It Comes at Night". The movie was absolutely terrible, so we drowned our sorrows in McDonald's and cooking shows. He also brought Jonathan and I really cool gifts! I absolutely adore my watch!

Hers and His

Thursday was a huge day at work and as soon as I got home, I flopped onto the couch and refused to move until Saturday. The week had been hard on Jonathan as well, who worked so much overtime.

Saturday, Jonathan and I grabbed brunch at this spot I had been dying to go to for years. I got an Eggs Benedict/crabcake perfection dish and I fell in love! I had never had eggs benedict and I'm so glad that was my first.

I also finished The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo and the audiobook of Lolita, read by Jeremy Irons (Swoon). I just started The Thousandth Floor as well, so expect a review soon!

Overall, I had an excellent week and can't wait to see what else is in store! Have a great week!

~I will be on vacation with my family the last week of June (26th-30th) so posts may be a little off/nonexistent! Thanks for bearing with me!~

5 Fandom Friday: My Summer Bucket List

Happy 5 Fandom Friday ya'll!

This week, we are talking about our summer bucket lists!

I love summer. I love the freedom, the cute clothes, the warm weather. Summertime is its own feeling.

Even though I am now "technically" an adult, I still get a huge surge of energy when summer comes around. However, making plans while factoring in work, both mine and Jonathan's, can be a little bit difficult. We have to plan things out pretty far in advance to make sure it goes through.

As a lover of lists, I have plenty of activities and events that I would like to do this summer, both with Jonathan and solo. Here are my top 5!

5. Camp out with my telescope

For Christmas, Jonathan got me a portable telescope with a backpack carrying case. Since then, it's been in it's case, in my closet, gathering dust. I hope I can finally be able to camp out and observe the stars. The scope also came with a sky map and I would love to identify at least one constellation!

4. Try a Freakshake

I blame Kristin for this one. After seeing her post about Black Tap, I became obsessed with finding a place here that sells them. So far, no luck, but if I can't find one in San Antonio, I've decided to just make my own. Either way, this will be the summer of freakshakes! They are so cool and I just love the idea of going all out on dessert!

3. Pool Day

I FINALLY HAVE A CUTE SWIMSUIT! I want to have a whole day at the pool, with my summer hat and heart-shaped sunglasses. I may not live near a beach, but I sure as heck can enjoy the summertime splash of a cold pool!

2. Dollar Movie Marathon

I love the dollar theater. We happen to have an excellent one here in SA. I would love to spend a day watching 2 or 3 movies, back to back. A cute date for a few bucks? Plus, air conditioned theaters definitely are a win in Texas heat!

1. Picnic in the Park

Fun fact: I used to go to class on Fridays for 1 hour total. After class, Jonathan would pick me up and we would head to the park with some sandwiches (or if we were feeling fancy, a Little Caeser's pizza) and just enjoy the day by the lake. It was cheap, fun, and it got us out of the house for a bit. I really want to bring this back, even if it's just a couple times a month.

I noticed a trend in my summer goals. They all boil down to more cool dates and getting out our comfort zone as a couple. I'm super excited to check these off my bucket list and make more memories with the love of my life :)

Overwatch - OVER IT!

Just kidding.

Kind of.

At the end of May, Overwatch celebrated their anniversary event with a ton of new skins, emotes, and other goodies.

This was a pretty big event. Their were over 100 different anniversary themed items in this event, more than any previous event. So naturally, I decided I would be grinding for new items.

And then this skin was released....

If you're not familiar with Overwatch, that character up there is D.Va (real name: Hana Song), a 19 year old Korean professional StarCraft player, who was tapped to join the fight in the war between the Omnics and humans after her country had been destroyed. For reference, this is her usual skin.

I am a huge D.Va fan. When the game was announced, I immediately was drawn to this adorable, bubbly gamer girl. I now have multiple shirts, figures, and merch all relating to her character.

So when I saw the 50's style skin that was available, I NEEDED IT!! I spent the whole first week grinding for skins, starting as soon as I left work until past midnight.

And nothing.

I spent all my weekends playing, since I didn't have to work.

And still.....nothing.

I OPENED 80 anniversary lootboxes guys. I leveled up over 60 times, since each level granted one box.

By the time this past weekend came around, I had been playing upwards of 7 hours a day, stopping only for work and to sleep. Sunday, I played from 8 AM to 7:30 PM.

And at the end of all of that,

I finally had enough gold to buy it.

And now, I will never play Overwatch again....

at least until the next event.

I know this isn't my usual format for recaps, but I have spent my entire past week doing nothing but playing this game. This next week looks to be a lot more entertaining and I can't wait to share it with you guys!

June Goals

Hey guys!

I know it is a little late in the month, but I finally set some June goals for myself!

This month is all about doing things that make me happy and finally doing the things I've been putting off.

1. Blog Consistently

I can feel myself pushing my blog to the side a bit, especially the past week or so. As soon as I get out of work, I have been collapsing on the couch and sleeping until morning. My goal for this month is to at the very least get my 5 Fandom Fridays and weekend recaps posted on time!

2. Draw Something

So, if you didn't know, my dream is to one day publish some of my comics on here. The problem is, due to lack of time and motivation, I stopped drawing consistently, which really hindered my progress. My goal this month is to draw something at least 2 times a week, whether it be good or bad, letterings or figures. Hopefully, once I get in this habit, I can increase with ease!

3. Fix my hair

One of my biggest issues in my life is my HAIR. I have long hair that tends to be knotted up on top of my head or pulled into a very bushy, unattractive ponytail. It's super time consuming to fix properly and I tend to give up pretty fast, so this month I want to fix my hair into something presentable that I can feel proud of, at least 2 times a week.

4. Read 3 Books

I've been on a good reading groove and I wanted to set a specific goal for myself for my reading. I hope to read more than 3 but at least with this number, I won't feel so overwhelmed.

5. Watch Something New

I am a horrible TV/Movie watcher. I can watch Parks and Rec 8000 times but will put of Game of Thrones, even though it's been on my watchlist forever!! I did manage to catch up on Riverdale (see my livetweets here) and I liked the feeling of not having to avoid spoilers and getting excited about something. My goal is to start at least one series on my watchlist!

These are my goals for June and we'll see how I did in my June Wrap-Up at the end of the month!! What are your June goals? Let's chat in the comments, or tweet me @raineedayze!

Online Tea Party - Everything, Everrything

Guys, I'm so excited to finally announce this!!

So, if you saw my post from Tuesday, you may have noticed that I mentioned a book club. Becca from My Life As A Sports Fangirl and I have started an online book club, tentatively called "Online Tea Party"!

So what does this mean?

Like any other book club, we will choose a book to read and then review it on our respective blogs. We are in the process of creating some fun activities and questions to go along with the books that we choose each month.

---THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!---

This month, we chose "Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon.

This book was super fluffy and I really enjoyed being able to read something fun and cute for a change!

The book follows Madeline (Maddy) and Oliver (Olly), two teenagers who meet when Olly's family moves next door. There's only one kind of big problem...Maddy has SCID, a disease that essentially makes her deathly allergic to the outside world. Maddy has spent 18 years living in her house, doing classes online, under 24-hr care from her mother and nurse. But once she gets a taste of what she is missing, Maddy may fall in love with the life that in turn may kill her.

This book was my first venture into Nicola Yoon's writing and although I did enjoy the book, I found it a little cheesy. It was very reminiscent of a John Green novel. Both authors are great writers, however the story does have some parts that are a little unrealistic.

For example, 18 year old Maddy applies for a (pretty incredible) credit card and gets approved immediately, with no credit score, no credit history, and no sort of history in pretty much anything. The twist at the end was also a little unrealistic.

At the end of the book, we find out that Maddy's mom had suffered a mental breakdown due to the loss of her son and husband and has essentially held Maddy hostage her entire life by convincing her she is too ill to be outside. Though it is never addressed as abuse, that is pretty much exactly what abuse is. I found that it was a little odd that Maddy's nurses didn't seem to look too far into her illness to make the discovery themselves.

Another issue I had with the book was the sex scene between Maddy and Olly. Sex in YA has never bothered me but it was a little sudden to go from "I could die by breathing the outside air" to having sex. I feel that there would possibly be some hesitation, some build-up to the decision, but it was pretty rushed and a little clunky.

All in all, I found the book to be a good read if you're in the mood to turn your brain off for a bit and look at incredible artwork.

For fans of: John Green, David Levithan

Overall Review: 3/5

Be sure to check out Becca's review HERE!

5 Fandom Friday: 5 Favorite Episodes

Happy Friday!!

This week for 5 Fandom Friday, I decided to do my own prompt. The original prompt for this week was "5 Epsiodes/Seasons I Would Delete From a Show". Personally, though, I feel like even the sucky episodes make the show what it is. Call it a "season flaw". I just can't imagine getting rid of one bit of any show. (Except for the subplot with Joey and Rachel, because COME ON).

So for my prompt, I chose my 5 Favorite Episodes of all time!!

5. That 70's Musical - That 70's Show

Oh the token musical episode. I love these episodes, even though they typically contribute little to nothing to the overall plot. But, they are so much fun!!! This episode revolves around Fez preparing for his performance in the school musical, but the gang doesn't seem too excited to watch him perform.

Highlight of the episode: The Joker

4. Viva Las Vegas - Roswell

After coming into a huge amount of money, Michael decides to take a guys trip with Max to Las Vegas. Somehow, the entire gang ends up going there and hilarity (and heartbreak ensue).

Highlight of the episode: "You're in for a rare treat - a dream coming true."

3. I Was A Teenage Spy - Boy Meets World

This episode was so cool and I still dream about it to this day. Cory gets zapped back in time to the 1950's and accidentally mistaken for a Russian spy!

Highlight of the Episode - Natasha and Boris

2. As Time Goes By - Boy Meets World

This time, Topanga falls into a time vortex and gets transported back in time to the 1840's in a very film noir inspired episode. What can I say, I'm a sucker for time travel!

Highlight of the Episode - The retro detective feel

1. The One With The Rumor - Friends

My freshman year of college, I spent Thanksgiving alone on campus and managed to watch all the Friends Thanksgiving episodes on constant repeat thanks to Nick at Nite. This one is my absolute favorite and has baby faced Brad Pitt!

Highlight of the Episode - "Did she look 16?"

What are some of your favorite episodes? Let's chat in the comments or tweet me @raineedayze while I queue up some of these to rewatch on Netflix!

Movie Weekend

Happy Tuesday!

This past weekend (well, Thursday) Jonathan and I obviously went to go see Wonder Woman. I may have gone a little crazy with the outfit.

Not pictured: WW earrings, shoes, & socks

As I'm sure you have all heard, it was INCREDIBLE! I pretty much started bawling as soon as the movie started and didn't stop until we got home.

The movie was so important to me because I have been such a huge Wonder Woman fan my entire life and if you're a collector, you know how limited her items and presence in merch is. I mean, I have seen more Justice League sets featuring the Joker than her....so to finally see her get a fantastic portrayal and know that little girls will be able to see a superhero movie of someone they can look up to, it just made my heart swell.

And now I'm crying again...

I also happened to catch Baywatch this weekend with some friends from out of town. They stopped by for a short visit before taking off to the airport so being able to chat with them and have dinner was really nice, even if it was for just a bit. They also brought us some super awesome goodies including this cat-shaped wine bottle!!!

Baywatch was hilarious and I really liked the relationship between the Rock and Zac Efron. It was super fun and I urge you guys to check it out.

I also started Riverdale and WHY DID IT TAKE ME SO LONG??? I've been a huge fan of Betty and Veronica for most of my life so when the show was announced I was intrigued. But I finally sat down and watched it and loved it! I'm only on the third episode but it's already insane!!

The rest of the weekend was spent gaming (I'm still grinding for the D.Va skin to no avail!), and reading "Everything, Everything" for our book club (more on this later). I hope you guys had a great weekend and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!!

Let's chat in the comments!

5 Fandom Friday: Songs That Remind You

Happy Friday!

It's the first week of June which means, the new 5 Fandom Friday prompts are up! Check them out on Megan's (The Nerdy Girlie) blog!

This week's prompt comes to us from Barb over at You Fancy Me Mad. Go check her out!

This Friday we are talking about 5 songs that remind us of a TV show or movie. This prompt sounded easy at first but when I actually sat down to write this post, my mind completely blanked! I didn't want to do exclusively theme songs because that made it a little too easy. So, these are my attempt at a pseudo-fanmix. Here we go!

5. Heat of the Moment - Asia; Supernatural

So this song actually did come out in the episode "Mystery Spot" (S3E11). However, ever since then, I can't hear this song without thinking of Dean Winchester. I'll be driving to work and this song comes on, and all of a sudden, I'm thrown into an episode of Supernatural.

Listen to the song here and check out this supercut of the Supernatural episode/song here.

4. Here With Me - Dido; Roswell

Okay....I know I said I would avoid theme songs but this song is just so good!! This is the theme to Roswell and every time I listen to the song, I get into that "sad music video" mindset. Which is essentially Roswell in a nutshell.

Listen to the song here. I tried finding a video of the opening credits because it's such 90's angsty goodness, but alas, I found nothing! However, the show is on Hulu so check it out!

3. I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas; Valentine's Day

I unabashedly love this song. It always gets me so pumped up! And I also really love this movie. This song was the in the commercial for the movie and was also parodied on Family Guy, so every time I hear this song, I think of that promo.

Listen to the song here.

Valentine's Day Promo here
Family Guy parody here

2. Kings and Queens - 30 Seconds to Mars; The Guild & My Sucky Teen Romance

This song always reminds me of a group of friends heading to a convention. Yeah, I don't know why either. But it just sounds like a good song to play on a long road trip to a convention, when the car is all packed, everyone is abuzz with excitement and you're ready to really nerd out. So, for me,I think of the Guild, when the group is on their way to the video game convention and it also reminds me of My Sucky Teen Romance, a vampire love story that takes place at a convention.

I know....I don't understand my logic either.

Listen to it here.

1. Africa - Toto; Family Guy

This song is one of my favorite songs. It's so catchy and I jam out to it a lot more than I'm willing to admit. This song came out on an episode of Family Guy (S10E23) as Joe and Bonnie's song, the song they fell in love to. It sounds sweet, until you watch the episode but it still is so great!

Listen to it here.

That's all I have for this week, but I would love to hear what songs you guys associate with tv/movies! Let's chat in the comments or tweet me @raineedayze!
