Wizards and Wands Craft Festival

It's that time of year again!

Every year one of my favorite malls in town holds a Wizards and Wands craft fair, basically a huge Harry Potter-themed extravaganza where I spend way too much money!

I try to go every year because, aside from all the cool merch, there are HP themed snacks, cosplays, and you can support local business which is always a plus.

This year was no different. I had planned to go in full HP gear, but realized, I am SERIOUSLY lacking in Harry Potter clothes. My one HP shirt is a bit too small and I couldn't find my beanie or cloak, so I donned the closest thing to a witchy shirt and a big Harry Potter bow and we headed out.

As soon as we arrived, I saw one of my favorite sellers, Enchanted Enigma Crafts, who makes GORGEOUS fandom charm bracelets. I already own a Wonder Woman one and there was a deal if you bought three so I picked up a Ravenclaw themed bracelet, a Star Trek themed bracelet, and a Supernatural themed bracelet. I'm absolutely in love with them and they make me feel so fancy while repping my faves.

Walking around we stopped for some cupcakes to refuel during this journey. Jonathan got a butterbeer flavored one and I got the most adorable Gryffindor-themed vanilla cupcake. The picture doesn't do the Butterbeer justice because IRL the sugar made it look like it was foamy mug at the Three Broomsticks, which was really cool.

I also picked up this really adorable print for the entranceway of my house. I love the Burrow and I think it sums up my home pretty well.

I of course, had to accessorize. I managed to snag some super cool bows from another one of my favorite vendors. I buy bows from her shop every time I visit, so I already knew I was gonna be picking some up. The Harry Potter one is a leather-like material and is super pretty when you pin it in your hair, so it's definitely going to be one of my staples.

Lastly, I found these adorable earrings with my favorite half-giant, Hagrid, on them.  I'm so in love with these and I need more Hagrid in my life (seriously most underrated character), so I was so excited to find these.

Overall, I spent way too much money but I am so happy with all my purchases and can't wait til next year!

5 Fandom Friday: 5 Nerdy Places I Want to Visit

January prompts are up and I'm so excited to finally participate in a 5 Fandom Friday on time! For this FFF, I'm looking at 5 nerdy places I'd like to visit. This is pretty tough because I love to travel and have been pretty much nowhere. So, hopefully in the near future these will all become a reality.

5. Japan.

Okay, I don't know if this is nerdy, but my reasons sure are. Obviously, I'm a huge anime fan but I'm also a huge history and art fan. I would love to explore Japan not only for the pop cultural aspects but for the rich history surrounding the area. I was friends with a woman who lived in Japan until her early twenties, and she used to tell me stories all about life in the country. It was just so cool to hear about a completely different culture and I'd love to appreciate the beautiful history in the actual location.

4. King's Cross

I love Harry Potter. Harry Potter was my first real fandom, and is still a place I turn to when I need a little magic in my life. I would love to visit King's Cross and maybe feel a little bit of the magic from the unified nerdiness of those who walked the station before me. Basically, I would just combust from the awesomeness.

3. San Diego Comic-Con

I have a love/hate relationship with conventions. I love all the cool stuff and the endless shopping. I love the nerdiness. But, my social anxiety skyrockets during conventions. It's a pretty bleh feeling. I do hope to overcome that issue and attend more conventions in spite of it though. Plus, I hear SDCC is wicked fun! This would be not only a stepping stone in overcoming anxiety, but also a treasure trove of awesome experiences.

2. Wizarding World

Again, I adore Harry Potter. I would love to visit the Wizarding World to feel more connected with my Potterhead fandom. It'd be incredible to get my wand, get my robes, and taste butterbeer! This is one of my "let's go today" goals. I think this will be one of the first big places Jon and I will save up to go to. I can't wait!!

1. DISNEYWORLD

I've never been to Disneyland or Disneyworld and I feel that has to change. I've seen so many wonderful posts and photos from Disneyworld and I can't stand not having the experiences. MY LIFE HAS TO HAVE MAGIC IN IT!!! This is the current trip we are saving for because I've bugged Jon for years about it. I'm so excited to get there someday, but for now I must live vicariously through others.

What nerdy places would you love to visit? What nerdy places have you already visited? Let's chat in the comments! Also, if you participate in 5 Fandom Friday, link it to me so I can check it out!

Potter Month - 5 Reasons I'm Grateful for Harry Potter

Hey there internet!

This month is Potter Month in the Female Geek Blogger world. This is the brainchild of Megan of The Nerdy Girlie and Kristin over at Super Space Chick. I'm so happy to be joining in the fun since Harry Potter is such a huge part of my life. Let's get started!

1. The Harry Potter book series was my gateway into geekdom. When the books came out, my mom bought me my first copy of the Sorcerer's Stone. I immediately read it cover to cover until I got my hands on the second one. By the third book, I was attending the midnight releases, dressing up in costumes, buying my first merch, and bonding with other fans over the stories we loved. I remember hiding in my bedroom, writing my first (terrible) fanfiction which featured a love triangle between Fred, Hermione, and Ron. Many ships, fanfics, and fan art drawings later, I still always remember where I came from.

2. It gave me hope in some pretty dark times. Growing up is tough. Growing up as a girl with split up parents is tougher. I'm not one to seek pity, but my childhood was pretty rough. Harry Potter gave me an outlet of impossible things. Harry had no parents and was always picked on by Malfoy and yet he was the "chosen one". Maybe his life sucked, but he was special and would do great things. The series made me feel like I was part of the trio and I too could accomplish great things, if I just believed the world wasn't all bad. Plus, looking forward to the book releases gave me happiness when things looked pretty bad.

3. Hermione kicked butt as a role model. As a bushy haired, bespectacled nerd girl, Hermione was someone I could look up to. She was the brightest witch of her age and she had to work twice as hard, due to being a Muggleborn. This girl left her family to go to Hogwarts, a school for magic. WHO DOES THAT? She took chances and wasn't afraid to stick up for herself. I also liked that she never dumbed herself down, even when Snape and Ron picked on her for it. However, something I think people forget is that Hermione also was human. She had insecurities and sometimes tried to fit in and she made me feel like it was okay to make mistakes, as long as you remember that you are awesome just the way you are.

4. One Word: WROCK. As I got older, I found things like A Very Potter Musical and fanmade Harry Potter tribute bands. Justin Finch Fletchley and The Sugar Quills, Peeved, Draco and the Malfoys, and Harry and The Potters comprise my blogging playlist. If you haven't heard of Wrock, or wizard rock, it's music based on Harry Potter. I recommend Swish and Flick's theme or Harry and the Potters "I Am A Wizard".

5. The community. I've met and bonded with so many people over Harry Potter. Most of my best friends are huge Potterheads and all of the awesome women participating in this month's prompt have something to contribute to the discussion of this awesome series. Whether you're a movie fan, a book fan, or a fan of both, the series will always be there to welcome us home.
