Resolutions, Revolutions, and Doing Something
Happy New Year ya'll!
Now that we've began a new year, I decided there was no better time to make some adjustments in my life. But, the idea of resolutions always seemed a bit odd to me.I'm not sure I have much to resolve as much as I have to create. So instead of resolutions, I think it's time to make revolutions.
This kind of goes along with the #OneWord365 goals you may have seen popping up on other blogs. For these revolutions, I think there is one word they all surround.
Do.
I want to do something, whether that means creating, being present, or simply just doing the things I love. I want to be a doer, not something that lets the world pass me by. What does this mean?
In 2017 I want to...
Do Something and Do it Well
As a full-time student, part-time worker, I have a lot of duties that pull me in every direction. Sometimes, though I hate to admit it, I do put my school a little behind due to frustration, exhaustion, and general laziness. Sometimes I spend my Saturdays playing Overwatch instead of reviewing for an exam by telling myself "I deserve this". This year I want to create the kind of academic profile that matches the person I want to be. The kind of academic record of a person that would make Leslie Knope proud.
Do something active
I'm 21 years old. I love booze, junk food, and video games. I tend to not really pay attention to the long-term effects that my lifestyle will take on if I continue. This isn't a "lose weight" type of thing though. This is a more, "put real food in your mouth instead of a 5 dollar burger" and "see the outside world a little more" type of thing. Contrary to popular belief, I won't be Forever 21 and even now, I should be able to do some physical activity without dying. Also, it'd be pretty great to not have my doctor yell at me.
Do things for and with others
I was blessed with the most amazing people in my life. Yet, sometimes I feel myself taking them for granted. I catch myself checking my phone while in conversations, playing games instead of watching movies with Jonathan, or just avoiding plans because I'm too lazy/stressed/anxious/etc. to actually go out. I want to change how I see the people in my life, show more appreciation for them, and put more effort in them than my selfishness.
JUST DO IT
If you follow me on any form of social media, you know I love a lot of things. But I do catch myself "never getting around" to doing things. Movies go unseen, books go unread, crafts go unfinished, (blog posts go unposted....). This year I want to be a doer, a creator, an interesting person. I want to push myself to be the person I'd want to hang around. The type of person who has a story to tell and who has things they do instead of just waiting for life to happen to them.
What are some of your goals for the new year? Do you have a word for 2017? Let's chat about it!

Isn't This Where We Came In?
Hey guys!
In case you haven't noticed, I've been gone for a bit. An extremely long bit, actually. I had a pretty hectic semester and the only time I got to see the computer was for typing up 50-page assignments. So, yeah...it's fabulous to be back, and I hope you accept my humble apologies!
As 2016 closes out, I'm looking back on this year with a full heart and a determined spirit. We can't say it hasn't been eventful. From the tragic, the scary, the fun, and the just plain bizarre moments, I can truly say I'm ready to put this year behind me. Of course, there were so many wonderful moments that made this year great. But I feel ready to release this year and create a fresh start.
Since I haven't been around much, I thought I'd update you all on the last few months of my life. Cue the photo montage!
Two of my best friends graduated! Congratulations to my Little, Miriam and to Karina, aka Shot #1. I'm so proud of you guys!
Christmas came and we were spoiled with not only wonderful gifts but a trip to visit my family in Dallas! I even went ice skating! It was an absolute blast and I was so blessed to spend the holidays with the people I hold dear!
I lost my grandfather a bit before Thanksgiving. It was pretty hard on all of us. Unfortunately, I was unable to be with my family when it happened, so I had to take some time to deal with it. Luckily, our family is so supportive and close that we are slowly able to come to terms.
I took on the hardest semester of my life. Aside from any personal issues, I also was putting in full days of nonstop school. Even though I took few classes, I worked in labs or on classwork from 6 a.m to past midnight most nights. Every break from school was filled with sleeping for 12 straight hours. I worked so hard and can proudly say I accomplished it strong.
I also took on new responsibilities on the Executive Board of my honor society as their Publicity and Social Media director. I felt so humbled at my opportunities to work towards building better leadership skills and gaining responsibility for something I'm passionate about.
I was blessed with the most wonderful support system in the world. From my hilarious and perfect friends, my loving and wacky family, and the most supportive boyfriend I could ever dream of, I was able to push through this year. I cannot imagine doing any of this without them.
So now it's your turn. How was your year? Now that you can review it as a whole, how would you describe it? Let's chat in the comments!!

Captain's Log #8: Get into the Groove
Hey there guys! I'm hoping you're having a great day!
This weekend I finally finished Life is Strange and, oh my gosh, was it intense!
via GIPHY
I had to take my headphones out and play the game next to Jonathan at the end because it got very creepy! However, it was a fabulous game and now I am suffering from a game hangover.
Because of my obsession with Doctor Who, I thought I would be good at time-travel but this game made me question everything. And now I'm just..
via GIPHY
I highly recommend it if you haven't played it, but it will drive you mad.
Other than that, I spent most of this week just sleeping or watching anime and Regular Show. I needed a relaxation break because this past week kicked me in the gut at every opportunity. It was just a huge stress and I refuse to let this upcoming week do the same.
Right now to get ready for the week, I'm working on my to-do list and making some pumpkin bread for Jonathan to take to work and to have here at home. I love fall so much and I love having the opportunity to go pumpkin crazy this season!! I already got my PSL game on and am just awaiting more pumpkin themed treats in the grocery stores so I can go insane! And it's almost Halloween!!

So before I turn this into a fall appreciation post, let's talk about the Log!
The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore. I picked up this book at Half-Price Books the other day and I'm eager to finally start it. I'm a huge Wonder Woman fan and I love reading about her backstory and creation because the complexity is rarely discussed. I can't wait to find out more things about the creation of my hero.
Kasumi (Vol. 2) by Surt Lim and Hirofumi Sugimoto. I'm extremely excited by this purchase because I've been looking for this manga for YEARS! I picked the first volume up a few years ago and was never able to find part two. The storyline is so good and I'm a sucker for a magical romantic manga. Plus, the artwork is fantastic. I can't wait to start reading this later this week.
Marvel TsumTsum (Android). This is my first venture into the TsumTsum craze and I'm absolutely loving it. I had seen a lot of my fellow nerdy ladies get into TsumTsums and after I saw Desiree tweet that a Marvel version was available, I decided to download it and see what all the talk was about. I got insanely addicted and then downloaded the regular Disney version as well. Jonathan jokes that I've become obsessed, but I can't put it down! It's so cute and fun! Check it out in case you haven't yet.
Regular Show (Hulu). When I heard this show was getting cancelled, I knew I had to catch back up with it. Regular Show has been one of my favorite shows since it came out and I adore the humor and artwork. I love stoner comedies and that kind of grunge humor (Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, etc) and Regular Show has been able to fill my 90's loving heart. I'm going to miss it but am enjoying rewatching it with Jonathan.

That's all I have for this week! Let me know what you're up to this week in the comments! Let's chat!

Captain's Log #7: A New Hope
OH MY GOSH MY CAPTAIN'S LOG WAS FINISHED AND NEVER POSTED! PLEASE TAKE THIS WITH A BATCH OF INTERNET COOKIES!
via GIPHY
Good morning my lovely readers!
This week, I started working on bettering our household and making it more of a home for us. As you all know
So, since I'm filling the main role of the homemaker, I started putting more effort into the work that I had to do and started seeing it as not just work but something that creates an enjoyable space, not only for me but for Jon and any company that may be over. It also prevents me from having to "crisis clean" when I want to take photos or videos around my apartment.
I'm planning on putting my daily/weekly schedules on another post, where I'll go more in depth about my life and the stuff I do.
Also, we had a party this weekend! Becca, her boyfriend Johnathan (with an H), Karina, her boyfriend Danny, and Marta (my gang of buddies) all came by for an end of summer bash. Jonathan (no H, aka mine) and I made a concoction we dubbed "Zombie Juice" and oh boy, that stuff sure lived up to it's name. Here's us at the end of the night.
L-R: Karina, Marta, me, and Becca |
We had an absolute blast and I was so happy to be able to spend a great night with the people I love.
I feel like I've talked enough for one Captain's Log so let's do this.
Our Farmhouse Life (Youtube). I found this series on Youtube through the Flylady website and I absolutely adore Hilary. She documents her life as a minimalist homemaker and her organization videos are to die for. Plus, she's always real about her lazy days and I like her truthfulness. Check her out here.
GTA V (Xbox One). I know I talked about this game previously but this game has been one of the only things I've been super excited about. Between the stress of my job, school starting back up, financial stress, and just general meh feels, it's nice to get to live a wildly different life and perform heists with Jonathan. We get to cut loose and talk trash to each other and I just miss hanging out. It's cheesy, it's offensive, but it's awesome.
I know my Captain's Log posts have gotten a little thin lately, but between my job stress and my home stress, these are honestly the only things I've been able to do. I don't have tons of off time anymore and when I do, I really don't want to spend it trying to get myself into new things. We shall see how things go though.

Captain's Log #2 - Preparation and Disaster
Happy Monday, everyone!
I hope your Monday is better than mine. I broke my phone walking into work today, and it looks like it's gonna be a lot of money to fix it, so I'm not very excited to foot that bill. The LED is currently bleeding into the screen and though it looks amazingly trippy, it's pretty crushing.
We are also preparing for a family vacation this weekend! We will be traveling a couple hours to camp with some of my family and I'm very excited to see everyone, since it's been a year since I've seen both my aunts. Jonathan and I are huge campers, so this week looks promising. We are going comfortable camping and our cabin has WiFi and central A/C so it's not the "great outdoors" but I'm really excited to get together and be surrounded by nature! Expect plenty of pictures and a full recap when I'm back home!
In true Captain's Log fashion, let's get down to the week!
Jawbreaker (Movie). This is one of my favorite movies and if you have yet to see it, please finish this post and WATCH IT! The movie follows queen bees Courtney, Julie, and Marcy "Foxy", who accidentally kill the fourth member of their group with a jawbreaker. Yes, the candy. It's hilarious, the lines are so quotable, and it features cameos from Marilyn Manson and The Donnas. Plus the main cast is stellar! Rose McGowan, Judy Greer, Carole Kane, Pam Grier, Jeff Conaway, and Rebecca Gayheart all contribute to this movie and it's absolutely peachy effing keen.
Board With Life (webseries). So I just found this series on Youtube while looking for a gameplay video and I absolutely adored it! The series follows a gaming group though their weekly game nights. At first, I was a little hesitant because it seemed to pit the wives in the group as killjoys for a "boy's club" and as a female gamer, I was a little turned off by this. However, as the show continues, it really does provide character depth, growth, and it makes you feel for all the characters. Plus, the actors (who also direct and write the show) are super sweet and have a bunch of cool stuff going on. Without spoiling it, it's something that should be watched the whole way through. The two seasons can be found here.
Gameinformer (Magazine). Okay, I know this sounds like a strange pick, but when we renewed our GameStop rewards, we were offered a subscription to GameInformer, a gaming magazine. I picked it up and must say, I look forward to getting the other issues. It sparked really great discussions between me and Jonathan ("Would you rather have a year of DLC or a sequel to a game?" "Are we buying the NX?") and I just love having an actual magazine in my hands instead of opening up 20 different gaming websites to get varying information. If you're on the fence about subscribing, go for it!
Overwatch (PC). I wrote my last post about Overwatch, but guys.....the game is SO GOOD! I'm obsessed with Dva and this game is my type of FPS. I like FPS in general, but I really enjoy goofy storylines (think Team Fortress 2, Gotham City Imposters). This game has incredible artwork and the character backstories are amazing! A friend of mine really enjoys Widowmaker and Jonathan switches between all the characters. All in all, this game is AWESOME.
Machi Koro (Tabletop). I have an extensive review of this game coming up soon but to sum it up, I adored this game. It's a very simple tabletop game and though some may find it too simple, I really enjoyed not having to spend half the game confused about what to do. It's a great starter game for tabletop novices. Plus, the trash talk opportunities are wonderful. And, I got to make a lot of puns, so that was great.
What are you guys reading/watching/playing? Do any of these sound interesting? Let's chat about it!!

Hello Blogosphere!
Meet the blogger |
Hey guys! Welcome to my first blog post! This is just an introductory post so you can get to know your author. After reading other geek girl blogs, I finally decided to jump in and see what the blogging world was all about. So, to start us off on this wonderful journey, here's 10 basic facts about me:
1. I'm 21 years old. Yay for legal alcohol consumption!
2. I'm obsessed with Wonder Woman. I have her statues and clothes and mugs everywhere. She is my favorite hero of all time.
3. I own about 40+ lipsticks and at least 20 are just different shades of red. Red lipstick makes me feel powerful but I'm known to sport a mean blue pout.
4. I have an amazing boyfriend and we have been together for nearly 3 years. His name is Jonathan and I adore him!
5. I love pigs!
6. Sid Haig once gave me an anniversary present at a horror convention. It was an autographed picture with relationship advice. I keep it in a frame in my house.
7. I'm scared of the dark.
8. I love pie! Apple, cherry, peach, you name it.
9. I am horrible at starting TV shows. My queue is insanely long and I constantly add more to it.
10. I'm a student, majoring is psychology with a concentration in research and counseling. I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree.
This blog is mostly my outlet for my daily life, my geeky loves, reviews, and a place to connect with other geeks! I hope you enjoy your stay! |
